REACHING REMOTE HOMES

An older woman named ‘Florence’, lives alone. Her small hut can only be reached on foot through the abandoned crop fields she once tilled. Her Community Health Worker,
Beatrice, tells of how she suffered from jiggers, the sand flea that burrows into people’s feet and hands, keeping her at home and in pain. When Beatrice found Florence, she treated the jiggers, and helped her clean the home and set up more sustainable ways of preventing
infestations in the future. Isolation has kept Florence home-bound, and unable to seek help on her own. She could not afford shoes or soap, so keeping jiggers away is a constant task as the red soil of Boro provides ideal conditions for jiggers. Beatrice is compassionate and humble, going about helping her client and protecting her dignity. She even brings her food sometimes so Florence doesn't go without.
